Obituary

Funeral service for Roland Franklin McLeroy, 92, of Foley, Alabama, formerly of Cullman will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Cullman Funeral Home Chapel with interment in New Prospect Baptist Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Wednesday from 12-1 at the funeral home.

Roland was born on August 16,1932 in Cullman to William and Trudie Felkins McLeroy.

Roland McLeroy was a man of few words, but every word he spoke carried truth. A firm handshake was all he needed to seal a deal. If you were fortunate enough to be on his list of friends, you knew he would always be there for you—trustworthy, loyal, and never one to share what was told to him in confidence. He was the kind of friend we all seek to find.

Roland was a devoted husband to his wife, Joan, for 49 years. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, setting a true example of what it meant to be a good man. His strength, love, and wisdom guided his family, and he lived with quiet dignity.

A proud Korean War veteran, Roland served his country with honor. After his military service, he worked for years as an office telephone technician at Bell South, providing for his family through dedication and hard work. Roland had a passion for the land and animals. He loved raising and riding horses, working cattle on the farm, and raising greyhound dogs for racing alongside Joan. There was little he couldn't do—whether it was drawing up house plans or building his own homes. In their spare time, he and Joan enjoyed fishing together, finding peace in the simple joys of life.

Roland McLeroy was a man of principle, skill, and quiet strength—a life well lived and a legacy that will not be forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Donald McLeroy, and a daughter Janine Pope.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years Joan McLeroy, sons Randy (Kathy) McLeroy, Ryan (Melissa) Hammond, daughters Cathy (Rodney) James and Larraine (Dale) Greer, Sister n law Lupita McLeroy, and a Niece Kathleen Burmeister, 16 grandchildren, a great nephew and a host of great grandchildren.
