Nancy Reichwein passed away peacefully at her home in downtown Cullman on May 15, 2026 at the age of 77.  Nancy was born in Cullman, AL on December 12, 1948 to Walter Martin Reichwein Sr. and Sarah Deloris (Burns) Reichwein.  She graduated from Cullman High School, then completed both Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in History at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, as well as a Master of Business Administration from The University of Alabama in Birmingham.  Nancy began her career teaching at Cullman College where she served as Director of Student Personnel.  She transitioned to Wallace State Community College, where she taught and inspired countless students across the South for over 27 years.  Nancy was known for her love of history, which she generously shared beyond classroom walls, never shying away from an opportunity to learn through rigorous discussion or an adventurous expedition, especially with close friends and family. Nancy worked to establish two historic districts in the City of Cullman and gave her time generously to benefit many community organizations including serving as past President of the Cullman County Historical Society.

Nancy was full of stories, clever humor,and keen insights, and the loss of Nancy will be felt deeply by those who knew her.  She is preceded in death by her parents.  She is survived by her brother Walter (Kay) Reichwein Jr., nieces Sarah (Nick) and Joan (Will), nephew Trey, and great nieces and nephews Kayleigh, Colin, Wilson, Lydia, and Ian.  The family wishes to thank Nancy's loving and devoted caregivers Maureen, Sandy, Sharon, and Teresa for their years of friendship and service.

A service for close family and friends will be held at 11:00 a.m. on May 23rd at Cullman Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation made to the Cullman Historical Society.
