Mrs. Minnie Jo Thomas passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at her
residence at the age of 90.
A Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, April 18th, 2026 at 11 a.m.
at Vinemont Christian Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church from 9-11 a.m.
Jo was born in Birmingham, AL, on February 11, 1936. She was the
daughter of Homer Wiley Blankenship and Grace Estelle Rutherford
Blankenship. Jo was a hard worker all her life. She attended North
Vinemont School and graduated from there in the 9th grade. She went on
to graduate from Cullman High in 1953.
She worked as a hospital assistant at Cullman Hospital and St Joseph
Hospital in Pensacola, FL. She helped her dad on the farm and gardened.
She Volunteered at the Commission on Aging, was a CARTS driver and a
Cullman County School bus driver for over 20 years. She met and married
A. David Thomas, on December 2, 1960. They moved to Jo's home in
Vinemont, AL, in 1963.
She and David started Vinemont Christian Church January 6, 1970
and ministered there for over 30 years and continued to be an active
member until her passing.
Jo enjoyed talking on the phone, gardening, yard sales, finding deals
for other people, and writing letters. She took lots of people to the doctor,
provided flowers for people's graves in the cemetery and talking to people
about Jesus.
Jo is preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Grace
Blankenship, her husband of 59 years, David Thomas and her step-son
Ronald Thomas. Jo is survived by her son, Nathan Thomas (Linda), step-
children: Arthur David Thomas, Jr. and Sherree Sellers; her grandchildren:
Katrina Collier Woodard (Jason), whom they raised from the age of thirteen
months, Nathaniel Thomas (Lindsay), Joshua Thomas (Rachel), Marc
Thomas and Justin Nunnelley; great grandchildren Joseph Thomas, Austin
and Gregory Heislen.
Those Officiating will be: Nathan Thomas and Nat Thomas. In lieu of
flowers, donations can be made to Vinemont Christian Church
