Martha Sue Smith, 81, of Cullman, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2026. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.  Martha was born on October 29, 1944, in Cordova, Alabama, to R.D. and Florence Garner. She grew up in Walker County and graduated from Parrish High School. Martha retired after a career as a police dispatcher for the City of Cullman, where she worked for many years. She enjoyed attending services at Temple Baptist Church and, in more recent years, watching services online. She loved God and His Word and carried that faith with her throughout her life. Martha also had a special place in her heart for animals and cared for many over the years, especially her beloved dog, Dixie. She loved butterflies, tending to her roses, reading, cross-stitching in past years, and cooking family recipes, including her famous taco soup. Martha was devoted to her family. She will be remembered for the love she showed them and the many ways she cared for those around her .Martha is survived by her sister, Patti Deason, daughter Sandy Lansford, son, James (Samantha) Lansford; grandchildren, JJ Ballenger, Katie (Zack) Holt, Riley Lansford and Ethan Lansford; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, R.D. and Florence Garner; sister, Betty Plylar; and brother, Bobby Garner. In accordance with Martha’s final wishes, no formal service will be held.“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
