Larry Gene Voyles, age 65, completed his journey on earth and passed away peacefully at his residence
in Cullman on March 31, 2022, with his wife by his side.
Larry was born on Tuesday, October 2, 1956, in Arab (Marshall County), Alabama. He was the fifth son and eighth child born to Columbus Larry and Dorothy Mae (nee Jackson) Voyles. He attended Eva High School and later attended Wallace State Community College.
He married the love of his life, Joyce (nee Bailey) Voyles, on December 7, 1997, and together they
shared 24 years, 3 months, and 24 days of marriage.
Larry was known for his kindness, always willing to help a friend or stranger; he had a gentle, quiet
nature and a sense of humor that could catch you off guard and put you in stitches with laughter. When
we first began dating, I asked if his name was Lawrence Eugene; he asked if I had ever heard of
Lawrence of Arabia. I said, "Yes." He said, "Well, I am Larry from Arab." He had a reserved
personality; comfortable in any crowd, loved to talk with friends… and strangers, never needing to be
the center of attention. He loved to play the guitar and had a wonderful singing voice, but it took a great deal of coaxing to get him to sing for me. He was slow and methodical with most tasks, with meticulous attention to detail. He enjoyed tinkering with cars, reading the Bible, working crossword puzzles… in
ink, and spending time with family and friends. He always looked for the best in a person.
Larry is survived by his wife, two children, a son, Jonathan (Brenda) of Ohio, and a daughter, Jamie of
Cullman; five grandchildren, Britney, Tyler, Stephanie, Austin (Brenda), and Brooke (Brayden); three
great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Abigail, and Aryana. He is also survived by one brother, Rick Voyles, of Eva, and three sisters, Joyce (Don) Manous, Carolyn James, both of Eva, and Sandra Johnson, of Union Grove, and a host of dear nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son,
Jason, brothers, R C, Sherman, Tucker, and Jerry. He was also preceded in death by a nephew, Wayne
Johnson.
