Funeral service for Hugh Gordon ‘Butch’ Baxter, 74, of Cullman will be Sunday afternoon, July 19th, 2026 at Pattillo Church of God in Hartselle at 4 p.m. with Pastors Tim Dubberly and Gary Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2-4 prior to the service.

Cullman Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.

Mr. Baxter passed away Friday, July 17th, 2026 at his residence. He was born in Georgia. He met and married the love of his life, Debra in Ohio and felt led by the Lord to move to Alabama. He was a minister for over 35 years and was an ordained bishop in the Church of God. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Butch also loved southern gospel music.  He was a kind and patient man. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Easter Kimball Baxter and Mary Sue Parker Baxter; brothers, Daniel Baxter and Herbie Baxter; sister, Liz Erlitz.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Debra Lynn Hunt Baxter; son, Timothy (Lily) Baxter, bonus son, Jonathan (Emilee) Alexander; daughter, Charity (David) Alexander; sisters, Lynn Langwell, Nina Kay Kelly; grandchildren, Abby, Brayden, Eli, Mia; bonus grandchildren, Kaiven, Karissa, Kaleb; nieces, nephews, family and friends.
