It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of Harold Wayne Brown, age 76, of Cullman. Harold passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, surrounded by those closest to him.

Harold was born on November 21, 1949, in Cullman, Alabama, to Reverda Early and Edna Inez Brown. He graduated from Hanceville High School.

Soon after graduation, Harold answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army. He proudly served during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he continued his dedication to our country through his work with the U.S. Medical Command Unit and the Civil Service of the United States, serving under the Surgeon General of the United States Army. Service was more than a chapter of Harold’s life; it was a part of who he was. He gave many years of his life to serving his country and was proud to have done so.

Over the years, Harold had the opportunity to travel and see much of the world. Yet, after all of his travels and experiences, he eventually returned home to Cullman, the place he loved, where he enjoyed his retirement and continued to give of himself to his community and his beloved church.

Harold never met a stranger and had a way of making people feel welcomed, valued, and loved. He was especially loved by the children and young people at church, whom he affectionately considered his “kids.” As a devoted Youth Leader, Harold led not only with words, but by example. He gave his time, his heart, and his wisdom freely, leaving an impact on countless young lives. His influence reached far beyond the church walls and touched people throughout our community, our county, and our nation.

One of Harold’s greatest passions was music. He loved to sing, and his voice and musical talents were enjoyed by many throughout the years. Whether singing at church or simply sharing his love of music with others, it was one of the many ways Harold brought joy to the people around him.

Harold leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a legacy of service, faith, kindness, and love. He is survived by one sister, along with numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and the many lives he touched along the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverda Early and Edna Inez Brown; two sisters, Martha Nell Quick and Margorie Reynolds; one brother, Delano Eugene Brown; and several nieces and nephews.

Though Harold will be deeply missed, the love he gave, the lives he touched, the young people he guided, and the memories he left behind will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Military services will be held at Mountain View Missionary Baptist Church in Cullman on Monday, September 14, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with a celebration of life following at the church. Address: 1890 Co Rd 438, Cullman, AL 35057  There will be no graveside service.
