Darrell Ray Maddox, age 77, of Cullman, Alabama, passed away on June 16, 2026. Mr. Maddox was born on April 18, 1949, in Hartselle, Alabama, to Jay and Hettie Leora Jennings Maddox. He was raised in the Battleground community and later made his home in Cullman. A gifted educator and musician, Mr. Maddox taught Math and Biology for 25 years at Vinemont School, where he became a favorite teacher to many. He was known for his sharp mind and unforgettable dry sense of humor.Music was one of the great passions of his life. He wrote gospel music and tuned pianos for more than 50 years. He owned Maddox Music and Gifts for eight and a half years. A talented musician, he could play virtually any stringed instrument. He especially loved bluegrass music and was a devoted fan of Dolly Parton .Mr. Maddox was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Hettie Jennings Maddox; his brother, Joe Wayne Maddox; and his sister-in-law, Kathryn Walker Maddox. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Ann G. Maddox; his daughter, Jennifer (Steven) Hasting; his son, Jeffery (Jeni) Wilhite; his grandchildren, Hunter Cupp, Dawson Wilhite, Lily Hasting, and Cheston Wilhite; his nieces, Melanie Maddox and Shelly Maddox; his beloved cat, Tommy Ray; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and an extended family that includes nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Mr. Maddox brought smiles to so many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral service will be at 3:06 Thursday, June 18th, 2026 at Corinth West Methodist Church located at 5130 Co. Rd. 1101, Vinemont, AL   35179.  The family will receive friends at the church from 1-3 prior to the service.
