Obituary

Carl James Chambers, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished member of his community, passed away on June 12, 2026, at CRMC. Born on March 14, 1942, in Alabama, Carl lived a full and meaningful life marked by dedication to his family, his passions, and his craft.

Carl's lifelong love for Alabama football and NASCAR reflected his deep connection to his roots and the vibrant spirit of his state. An avid fisherman and a skilled carpenter, he was a man of many trades who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. A proud Ford enthusiast, Carl also had a profound affection for the mountains, where he found peace and inspiration. Above all, his greatest joy came from his family, especially his grandchildren, to whom he was deeply devoted.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Reba Chambers, who stood by his side through all life's seasons. They were blessed with two sons, Tim (Amy) Chambers and Tony Chambers, who carry forward Carl’s legacy of strength and love. His sister, Shirley Eidson Coad, along with his grandchildren, Cody (Tabitha) Chambers, Taylor (Geremy) Hooks, Emma Chambers (Patrick McKeehan), Lily Chambers, and Ty Chambers, each of whom held a special place in his heart. Carl’s family circle also includes his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Vera and David White; numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, friends, and his beloved dog, Snooker, all of whom greatly enriched his life.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert Lonnie and Elizabeth Berrens Chambers, whose values and example helped shape the man he became. He also mourns the loss of his brothers, Elbert Chambers, Jr., Herbert Chambers, and David Chambers, as well as his sisters, Mary Chambers, Millie Griffith, and Dorothy Harbison. Additionally, his daughter-in-law, Beth Chambers, passed before him.

A funeral service celebrating Carl’s life will be held at Cullman Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 461 US-278, Cullman, Alabama 35055, on June 18, 2026. The service will begin at 2:00, visitation will be from 12-2 prior to the service.  Rev. Steve Rodgers will officiate the service and interment will be in Cullman City Cemetery.  All who knew Carl and loved him are invited to attend and honor his memory.

Carl James Chambers lived a life defined by compassion, hard work, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
